The Edmund Fitzgerald

I watched this video because we’re thinking of road tripping to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I didn’t know I didn’t know about what happened to the Edmund Fitzgerald. 😢

I like the video a lot, but I think she errs in missing the influence of the Gordon Lightfoot song. On another video about the Edmund Fitzgerald that I watched long ago, GF talked about how he saw the news of the ship’s sinking, and he thought it was so sad that this was just a blip on the news radar, so he endeavored to write a song that might do something to hold it in memory a little longer. With that, he was very successful, as the song was a monster hit in Canada and the US. When Alexis Dahl talks there about their lives not being in vain and changes that were made after the disaster, I think Lightfoot ought to get a little credit here.
Yes, I have since watched other documentaries that do give credit to Lightfoot for how well known the Edmund Fitzgerald is.
I was shopping when I heard the notification come up, so I pulled out my phone, and the first words that I saw were “give credit to Lightfoot” and for a moment I thought your comment was a response to a mini-rant about Lori Lightfoot ruining Chicago that I made on another blog today. 🙂
