Anticipating solstice

by Andrea Elizabeth

The lengthening nights corresponded to the retreating sun. Of course the Southern Hemisphere earned its due of the sun’s favor. For half the year they had entertained darkness and cold as welcome guests sent by the sun in its stead. Now it was the north’s turn to do without. Some welcomed the sun’s absence. Was it because their deeds were evil? They found the sun’s rays a little too hot and bright. Sea creatures dove to the deepest darkest coldest parts of the ocean to shine their own neon colored lights instead.
