Two fun holiday things

It was very nice to have all the kids, plus 2 friends, home for the Thanksgiving holidays. I hadn’t played Dictionary in years.  The last word of the game  (I didn’t win) was “whelm”. I was initially underwhelmed at this choice as we’d had some doozies that I can’t remember now, and which inspired some pretty creative entries. But whelm seems a blah word – between being over and under – nowhere, right? Deadpan? Turns out, no.

Noun: An act or instance of flowing or heaping up abundantly; a surge.

Verb: Engulf, submerge, or bury (someone or something): “a swimmer whelmed in a raging storm”.

So that must make overwhelm a double negative like irregardless and unravel.


Here’s the other one:
